Team India head coach Ravi Shastri has taken a tough decision keeping in mind the 2019 World Cup to increase the Yo-Yo Test (Fitness Test) score from 16.1 to 16.3 in a bid to raise the fitness standards of the national players. It is also learned that India A players will also follow the same.
A source revealed to Times of India that Shastri has instructed that every player must pass the Yo-Yo test to get selected in the national squad. Therefore its a must for the players to pass the new fitness guidelines imposed by Ravi Shastri.
It is also being said that the latest decision made by India head coach was already taken by the senior team, India A management and selectors last year but they put it into practice from now on.
The source revealed, “Ravi has instructed that every player must pass the Yo-Yo test. He has taken the decision keeping in view the tough overseas assignments for the team, including next year’s World Cup.”
Recently, young Sanju Samson failed to pass the Fitness Test for India A’s tour of England and Mohammed Shami for the historic home Test against Afghanistan as selectors named Ishan Kishan and Navdeep Saini as their replacements respectively.
It seems that Shastri and Indian cricket team management doesn’t want to take any risk on the players’ fitness as it creates the problem in selecting squad in the last moment.
Meanwhile, Indian team is all set to play Afghanistan in the historic Test starting from 14th of June at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, while India A team has recently left for England to play the tri-series, including the West Indies A as well. The series will start with warm-up games from 17 June.
