Having beaten Worcestershire by 3 wickets at New Road on Thursday, September 13, Surrey has lifted the County Championship title for the first time in 16 long years.
The Oval based Surrey have been giants of the English domestic structure over the years and is now been very well rewarded for its magnificent performance throughout the first-class season.
In a substantial run-chase of 272 runs, Rory Burns and Mark Stoneman scored fine half-centuries to give their side a very fine start before middle-order batsman Ollie Pope and wicketkeeper Ben Foakes took the total past 200. This is when Morne Morkel and Rikki Clarke finished off the chase and clinched their team's tenth win of the season.
Former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel is a must mention here, as he took five wickets for just 24 to restrict Worcestershire's second innings score to only 203 on the third day.
Surrey now plays their last game of the season against Essex.
