After winning the 3-match ODI series 2-1, India Women’s team set their eyes on winning the T20I series against Sri Lanka women as well and started off well by triumphing in the first T20I at FTZ Sports Complex (BOI), Katunayake.
Put into bat by Sri Lanka women, the Indian team was jolted when Smriti Mandhana was dismissed for a golden duck and Mithali Raj was dismissed for 17. But Jemimah Rodrigues (36) and Taniya Bhatia (46) stabilized the Indian innings. Anuja Patil then added 36 with 5 fours and Veda Krishnamurthy scored 21* to take India women to 168/8.
AC Jayangani and K Prabodhani picked two wickets each for Sri Lanka women.
Sri Lanka women started off well with 32 from B Mendis and 27 from AC Jayangani. However, Poonam Yadav picked 4/26 to rout the middle order despite 45 from LE Kaushalya. Radha Yadav (2/15) and Harmanpreet Kaur (2/19) picked the remaining wickets off to finish the game for India Women.
SL Women was bowled out for 155 and India Women won the match by 13 runs.
