The Board of Control for Cricket in India changed its plan to hire former Indian pace spearhead Zaheer Khan aka Zak as the national fast-bowling coach as he demanded too much money that too for just 100 days. Zak was not interested in taking the said post for a full time.
Zaheer is one of the fastest bowlers India has ever produced and he has always been the first choice to become the next bowling coach of India. Currently, there is no bowling coach for India and the board wants Zaheer to accept this position whom the current Indian head coach, Anil Kumble had also given the green signal.
Currently, Anil Kumble is playing the dual role of the head coach and the bowling coach.
As per rumor, the BCCI was ready to hand the full-time role of bowling coach to former pacer Zaheer Khan at a lesser amount of money. But, Zak asked Rs 4 crore for 100 days service in a year, which was a too expensive deal for the post, felt BCCI. As a result, they decided against giving him a contract.
According to a source, who close to the development told the Times of India quoted a source as saying, The process to involve Zaheer was to have his services over a long period. It was turning out to be an expensive deal, and BCCI lost interest in hiring him. Zaheer also has a few things lined up and he cant be a full-time coach right now.”
Former pacer played 92 Tests and 200 ODI matches and picked up 311 and 282 wickets respectively. Zak played a vital role revive the Delhi Daredevils in the last season of the IPL. Sources said that the veteran wants to continue as the bowling mentor of the IPL outfit.
Cancelling the deal was not just the loss of Zaheer, becoming the bowling coach but also Indian cricket lost an excellent pacer, whose experience could have come in handy for the seamers in the national team.
Most of the bowlers in the present Indian cricket team know Zaheer Khan well, and if Zaheer was selected for the post, it would have been a great thing for the bowlers, who could get have benefitted and could have improved their game tremendously.
Now, Zaheers is out of the picture of being a bowling coach, lets wait to see what option the BCCI has in their hands for the vital role.
