VVS Laxman, who was the part of the Fab 5 from the Indian cricket team during the 2000s, has started a new innings in home town of Hyderabad in Telangana. Laxman announced that the VVS Foundation, a non-profit voluntary organization which will help the under privileged people of the city to realize their dreams, will have a “Black Tie fundraiser” event on May 5.
The foundation is the idea of Laxman’s wife Sailaja and the foundation that started in 2012. Sailaja explained, “It will not be just academics and sports but art and culture. Already 90 beneficiaries are getting a feel of the way the Foundation is going to function. There are four IIT students also on the rolls of the Foundation and being taken care in all aspects including about ₹1 lakh fees for each of the four students.”
VVS Laxman supported his wife’s decision and said,” Yes, I am inspired by Sailaja’s passion and commitment in her philanthropic activities. We thought it should be run in a more professional manner. That’s why we are launching it in a big way on May 5.”
Donations are all tax-exempted and donations will be welcomed from April 5 and willing donors can visit http://vvsfoundation.org to donate.
The mega event on May 5 will feature cricketers Yuvraj Singh, David Warner, badminton coach Pullela Gopichand in a discussion panel named ‘Sports Coaching in India’ and it will be moderated by ace Indian commentator and journalist Harsha Bhogle.
Another panel named ‘Power of Dreams’ will feature big names such as Telangana IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao and film star Samantha and will be moderated by VVS Laxman himself. The event will be an annual show starting this year.
The event will also launch the Satya Ram scholarship (on his parents’ names Dr. Satyabhama and Dr. Shanta Ram) in academics and another one Baba Krishna Mohan (Laxman’s uncle) scholarship in sports. Laxman explained. “The target is to see about 500 beneficiaries through this Foundation.”
