RCB captain Virat Kohli was ruled out of the initial matches in the upcoming IPL 2017, due to the shoulder injury he picked up in the third Test against Australia in Ranchi. RCB will also miss the services of keeper KL Rahul, who is in London to have surgery on his shoulder, which he injured in the Australia series as well.
In this case, RCB will be looking for a new opening partner for Chris Gayle and all-rounder Shane Watson has raised his hand for the job. Watson said, "In the absence of Virat and KL Rahul, there are chances that I would be asked to bat at the top -- a position which I enjoy the most and have been doing well, all my career."
Watson also said that the youngsters in the team now have the chance to step up to the plate in absence of star players and carry the team. He said, "It will be challenging for us to miss the services of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul for few games, but the team has players like Sarfaraz Khan, Sachin Baby and Mandeep Singh, who could be good replacements.”
Watson also put in his two cents about the Brad Hodge-Kohli incident, saying “I think in the end, Brad Hodge realised his mistake to have said something like that, especially against someone like Virat, who loves playing at the highest level."
