Former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin has strongly condemned the Rising Pune Supergiant franchise for their decision of sacking MS Dhoni as captain of the RPS team for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League and termed it ‘Disgraceful’.
In an exclusive interview with Times of India, Azhar stated, “The decision was disgraceful. Dhoni has won almost everything in the 8-9 years of his captaincy and even though the franchise can say they run the team with their own money, shouldn't they have seen Dhoni's stature and credibility before first stripping him of captaincy and then not even letting Dhoni the grace?”
Australian skipper Steve Smith, who had been appointed the new skipper of the RPS for the coming season of the cash-rich T-20 league in place of former Indian skipper Dhoni and Sanjiv Goenka, Owner of the Pune franchise had clarified the reason about that the management wanted that the team needed a young captain with vision and zest to lead the side in this season of IPL.
Goenka has said, “Dhoni himself had no say in the decision."I have also spoken with Mahi and he says that's absolutely fine.”
In the last season of the IPL, Pune had won just five games out of 14 games and they finished seventh in the points table and now the team management hopes that after the change in captaincy, Pune will do better under the captaincy of Smith in this season.
When asked to speak on MS Dhoni's removal from RPS captaincy, Smith replied, “There are no issues between us. We have shared some messages, MS is very supportive and it doesn't change my professional relationship with him or anyone else.”
