Five players DD could buy in this auction

By Aditya Pratap Arya -

The auction for the upcoming IPL is all set to take place on this Monday and teams have done their homework to pick the best players among the available 352 names. The fans of Delhi Daredevils will keep an eye in this auction as their team released several names from their squad. DD did well in the last year under the coaching of Rahul Dravid and finished on the fifth place after losing the final league fixture against RCB. Their best performance in the tournament reads the third place which they found in 2008, 2009 and 2012. They didn’t qualify for the playoffs since then. Delhi needs to add fast bowlers, stable opener and good spinners to balance their squad. Here we will discuss five players they should buy in this auction. Have a look;

5. Ashton Agar

The left-arm spinner from Australia has not picked by any team in the Indian Premier League yet. But this year he made his case strong after a good Big Bash season. Ashton Agar is in India with his national team for the four-match test series and his experience in this series can help him to gain some confidence if he gonna picked by any team. Delhi Daredevils should look on Agar as he can provide them the spin option and a handy batsman at times. He played on two T20Is for Australia and gave runs at an economy of 14.33.

4. Prithvi Shaw

The young boy from Mumbai is taking some giant steps in the domestic cricket. He came in the limelight for his record inning of 546 runs at school level in Harris Shield. He is a top order batsman and can play some destructive shots from the start. He made his Ranji Trophy debut with a century and followed it with the fifties. Delhi needs stability in their top-order and he can solve this puzzle. Having the form with his side, teams will be keen to take him in the squad.

3. Mitchell Santner

Young Santner impressed with his bowling skills in the last World T20 in India. He outplayed the Indian batsmen with his spin in the opening encounter with a 4-fer. The left-arm spinner is also a handy batsman and can hit big sixes. The test series against India helped him to understand the conditions of sub-continental pitches. Moreover, his economy rate in the T20 Internationals is excellent as he gave only 6.65 runs per over. Delhi released Tahir and he can take this empty spot. The talented spinner is having the attention from the world and his good show in the IPL won’t surprise them.

2. Alex Hales

The stylish opening batsman from England is the best T20 batsmen from the United Kingdom. His stats justify his talent with the bat as he is the only batsman from the English side, who has a T20I century after making missing this milestone twice. He got a call from the Mumbai Indians last year but his appearance was limited to the drinks. This is very strange why any team didn’t show their interest in him in the early IPL season. He can boost the top order of DD with his explosive shots. This buy can be a smart move for them.

1.       Mitchell Johnson

The fiery Johnson was at his best during the recently concluded Big Bash. He helped Perth Scorchers to lift the title as he delivered his best in the knockout. Earlier he was in the squad of Kings XI Punjab but they didn’t show their fate in him. His spell of 4-2-3-3 in the semifinal gave the glimpse of his older version, which was as aggressive as fire. With keeping the need of a fast bowler in mind, Johnson can be fit in the attack of DD. The bowling was not an issue for the Delhi team, but his presence will matter in any bowling line-up.
