Watch: MS Dhoni never wanted to quit the Rising Pune Supergiants captaincy

MS Dhoni although not leading his IPL franchise will continue to play as a player this season

Mahendra Singh Dhoni who is no longer leading his IPL side Rising Pune Supergaint, never really wanted to give up captaincy. If one remembers correctly, MS Dhoni gave up his captaincy with the Indian team under unknown reasons and circumstances. He is still playing for the Indian team and will be doing so for his IPL franchise as well.

The owner of the Pune franchise, Sanjiv Goenka had previously said that Dhoni was jointly detached as the captain of RPS because of the better interests of his team and there have been many Dhoni fans, who were not aware of that. MSD led India A team last time as skipper of an India team during that time the video has emerged now where Mahi was seen saying that he would continue leading Jharkhand and Rising Pune Supergiants.

During the toss of the practice match between India A and England, which held at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on January 10, Commentator L Sivaramakrishnan asked Dhoni about his feelings of leading India for one last time and Mahi replied, "It's special because it's my last venue as captain. But I will be captaining at the IPL level and may be for Jharkhand, so it's not the last for me."

Dhoni had no idea about that he will be removed from the captaincy of RPS on that date. Later Goenka informed him that the franchise wanted a new young face to lead the team. Eventually, Australian skipper, Steve Smith was named as captain of Pune.
