Back in 2012, on this day Virat Kohli scored 133 as he helped India chase down a target of 321 against Australia in the Commonwealth Bank series. This was the first time the cricketing world saw the potential of a player named Virat Kohli who went on to become one of the modern greats in international cricket.
Batting first, centuries from Tilakratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakarra helped Sri Lanka post a daunting total of 321 for victory against India. India, to stay alive in the tournament had to chase down the target within 37 overs and a certain Virat Kohli made this impossible target look a child’s play as he totally dismantled the reputation of Lasith Malinga to hit him all round the park.
This match went right down to the wire, as India won with two balls to spare. The match went into the record books of cricket history and it was the rise of Virat Kohli who since then has been the mainstay of the Indian batting line up.
