Former Indian seamer Madan Lal reckons that MS Dhoni has taken the decision of stepping down as captain of India from ODIs and T20s as well by keeping in mind the team formation of 2019 ODI World Cup.
Talking to ANI, Lal said, "I appreciate the decision. Dhoni has done very well as a captain as he has won most of the tournament like ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, Asia Cup. Ha has also reached number one in the test cricket. His record as captain is wonderful."
The former Indian cricketer also went on to say that India's test captain Virat Kohli is going through the purple patch of the career both as a captain and as a player and he should lead India in all the three formats now.
However, even after giving aways the captaincy Dhoni will still be available for selection for the forthcoming ODI and T20 series against.
Dhoni has achieved some unmatchable success as a limited overs skipper for India from leading the side to win the first ever World T20 in 2007, then becoming the second Indian captain to clinch the ICC World Cup in 2011 and to winning the Champions Trophy in 2013.
