Chief selector comments on Dhoni's Exit

Indian captain MS Dhoni steps down from captaincy in limited overs. This news came like a spark and set the cricket world on fire. Prior of this announcement Dhoni was present at the semifinal clash of Ranji Trophy, where his domestic side Jharkhand was facing Gujrat. BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad was with him during that time, they had a long chat on the sideline. In evening, Dhoni took the bold decision and left his fans stunned.

Prasad stated about his exit that “It is totally his decision and we respect that. He has every chance to play in 2019 world cup as he is the fittest among modern cricketers.”

Further he added ‘He is a leader by nature. A natural leader, whether he is captain or not leadership qualities are in-built in him. If he is going to be a leader or not he will continue to contribute and he will still add value to Virat’s captaincy. He will pass on his experience and legacy to Virat. Just the way all our legendary cricketers saw Mahi growing from an aggressive cricketer to a different role and how he has emerged into a good captain, probably MS will also see Virat emerge into an excellent captain in all three formats of the game.’

This indicates chief selector’s vision about his decision and somewhere he was aware about it. It could be their demand to form a new team having 2019 World Cup in the back of mind. They wanted MS to focus as a player and were looking forward to give the command in Kohli’s hand, as he can help Virat to polish his skills in captaincy and to make bold decisions.
