Former Indian cricketer Surinder Khanna said that Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s decision of quite as the captain in limited overs format should be respected.
The former right-hander stated, "Dhoni has been an outstanding player. Indian cricket has done very well under him and won many trophies. I believe that every player has a shelf life,"
On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India said in a press release that Dhoni has informed the board about his wish to step down as the captain in both the T20 and ODI formats.
Though, MSD informed the Indian cricket board that he would be available for selection for the forthcoming T20 and ODI series against England, which will start from 15 January.
The Indian cricket team has played 199 One-day Internationals under the captaincy of Dhoni and won 110 and losing 74, with four ties and 11 no-results.
Mahi has a winning percentage of 59.57. Dhoni as well captained country in 72 T20 Internationals, winning 41 and losing 28, with one tie and two no-results.
