Akshar Patel had been called up to the Indian Test team as replacement for Jayant Yadav for the 5th Test against England, but ended up injuring his right thumb while fielding as a substitute. He had to undergo surgery and has been ruled out of cricket till atleast March.
Akshar is hopeful to be back soon and regain the rhythm he had before the injury, "I hope to be fully fit by the second week of March as the injury will take two and a half months to heal. I need to get back my rhythm and the positive mindset to return to my best," he said
To keep himself motivated and away from distractions, Akshar says he is watching his videos, "To gain self-confidence, I watch my earlier high-performing match videos and also read a lot of books on self-motivation,"
"I will travelling to Bangalore in the first week of February for rehabilitation," he added
While it was a big disappointment for Akshar to miss out on being part of the historic Ranji final won by Gujarat, he was with the team through out, "It was my bad luck that I did not play with my teammates in the finals of the Ranji trophy and I felt very disappointed. However, to come handy to my Gujarat Ranji teammates, I decided that I should be with them for the entire five days in Indore so that I could share my experience and also encourage my teammates who did a fantastic job in reaching the final," he concluded.
