Trinbago Knight Riders management has appointed the former Australian batsman Simon Katich as the head coach of TKR for the upcoming season of the Caribbean Premier League campaign.
The 41-year-old replaced former Aussie coach Simon Helmot, who has signed a long-term role as Bangladesh Head Coach High-Performance Programme.
In 2015, when the Trinidad & Tobago won the CPL championship during which Helmot has been with the franchise for three years.
Simon Helmot added, “I would like to sincerely thank the entire TKR family for all the support during my three years with the franchise.”
Former Australian terrific player Simon Katich has had various coaching assignments and his latest role is as assistant coach of Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. Katich stated, “It’s an exciting opportunity to coach a successful franchise like TKR in the Hero CPL and also great to extend the association with the Knight Rider Family from KKR to TKR.”
Trinbago Knight Rider’s management expressed gratitude to Simon Helmot for his contribution as well as welcomed Simon Katich to the TKR family.
In the Indian Premier League, Simon has also been a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders team management and has learned a lot from the experience. He was quoted saying, “This (KKR opportunity) came about by chance so I was quick to seize it. Working on the premier T20 competition in the world, it was too good of an opportunity to knock back. I spoke to the owners and captain, Gautam Gambhir, and they wanted to have me on board.”
