Kuldeep Yadav, who had been sensational for Uttar Pradesh in 2016-17 Ranji season, announced himself against England during the first warm-up game at Mumbai. In a match which was completely over shadowed by MS Dhoni as he was playing his last game as a skipper of Indian side, Kuldeep managed to leave an impact in the minds of Indian selectors, as he outfoxed England batsman and grabbed 5 wickets.
Speaking on his experience of playing under Captain Cool, MS Dhoni, Kuldeep was delighted as he shared his experience, "I wanted to impress ‘Mahi Paji’ as well as everyone else in the game by taking wickets, and I am happy that I could do both,”
He further added, “I knew this was the best chance so far to prove my worth so I did exactly what I had planned. I bowled on a tight line and kept tossing the ball up for the rival batsmen,”
Speaking to Hindustan Times, on experience in Team India's dressing room, Yadav said, “All the three days that I spent with MSD as well as other cricketers like Yuvraj Singh for the match, are like a dream to me. I m not going to forget these days ever in my life,”
While watching him bowl his heart out in the List-A match, it could be rightly said that Kuldeep Yadav not only bowls with passion, but is one of the few who uses his mind very effectively, however, Kuldeep Yadav had heaps of praises for MS Dhoni, and credited him for field placing, as he added, “MSD is a great mind reader and his imagination for field placing was amazing. Even before a single delivery I didn’t ask for a change in field set up as I always found the set up right,”
Finishing on the note, Kuldeep Yadav revealed MS Dhoni's advice ahead of the game, “Even a day before the match, he told me what to do the next morning, where to bowl and what to bowl. This continued even when I was bowling in the match. He did not lose patience even when the England batsmen hammered Indian bowlers. He was calm and composed and advised me to bowl slower ones even when the English batsmen playing sweep shots,”
Kuldeep Yadav was rewarded for his brilliant bowling in Ranji and List A game against England as he was able to find his spot in Rest of the India squad for the Irani Cup starting on 20th January.
