Afghanistan was recently enjoying the success of getting Test status by the ICC and now one more cheer moment has fallen in their lap. It will be definitely a great news for the Afghanistan cricket fans that the Afghanistan A side has been roped in the Triangular Series, which includes also India A, is scheduled to play in South Africa later this month.
Afghanistan A side has been roped in to replace the Australia A side, who pulled out of the triangular series due to the pay dispute between Cricket Australia and Australian Cricketers' Association.
Speaking about the participation of AFG to the series, CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat said, “We are delighted that Afghanistan have accepted our invitation and look forward to welcoming them to our country for the very first time. Afghanistan were deservedly granted Full Member status at the ICC annual conference last month after showing impressive growth in recent years.”
Lorgat further added on the same, “They are a passionate cricket nation and I expect the Afghanistan A team to compete strongly against our A team and India A in the upcoming tri-series.”
On the other hand, Afghanistan Chief Executive, Shafiqullah Stanikzai commented on this development, "We are very pleased to accept Cricket South Africa's invitation to participate in the upcoming triangular series. This will be our first-ever visit to South Africa and I am certain that this will give Afghanistan 'A' team very good exposure to competitive cricket.”
India A are scheduled to play two four-day games against South Africa A and the four-day matches follow the triangular series which starts on the 26th of July, with the final happening on 8th August.
