Stylish Afghanistan opener Mohammad Shahzad has overtaken Indian skipper Virat Kohli in the list of most T20 International run-getters during the T20I series against Ireland in Greater Noida. Now he is placed fourth on this list after Brendon McCullum, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Martin Guptill.
He has played 58 matches so far and scored 1779 runs with one century and 12 fifties. However, Kohli has featured 10 fewer matches than Shahzad and is only 70 runs behind him. Afghanistan wicket keeper was just 31 runs behind Virat before this series against Ireland but with his 123 runs, he gains lead over Indian captain.
Afghanistan thrashed the Irish team to secure a whitewash by 3-0, which extends their winning streak to 11 consecutive T20Is. Now, they hold world record for most consecutive T20 wins in international cricket.
Afghanistan won the first match by six wickets followed by a 17-run (DLS method) victory in the rain-hit match. In the third T20I, Ireland fell short of 28 runs in a brilliant run chase of 234.
Now, both teams will lock horns in a five-match One-Day International series from March 15. All matches will be played in Greater Noida. The last match is set to take place on 24 March.
