MS Dhoni, the former Indian captain may have stepped
down as captain, but his fandom has remained the same. He is literally treated like
a God by his fans. His devotees are crazy about him and we have seen the craze
many times, from painting themselves in Yellow and Blue and featuring his name
on their body to running into the ground to touch his feet.
His last match as Captain was a practice match of India A against England. Even though it was a practice match, MSD attracted large number of fans to the Brabourne Stadium. In that large number, one of them turned out to be a “bhakt” who ran into the stadium, breaching the security just to touch his feet. Yes, they have that level of madness for Dhoni.
A similar incident has happened today in Delhi during Vijay Hazare trophy Quarterfinals between Jharkhand and Vidrabha. A fan of Mahendra Singh Dhoni jumped over the wall from outside the ground and rushed to the captain while he was at the crease.
Jharkhand was chasing just 159 runs in the Quarterfinals and lost just 4 wickets in achieving the target. Every time a batsman got out, the crowd started chanting 'Dhoni Dhoni' but the Jharkhand skipper wouldn't oblige. There were other batsmen who needed the batting practice much more than the senior pro.
The man who touched MSD’s feet and took his autograph was escorted out of the field of play. It seemed like a matter of great pride for the fan as he walked out with his both arms up in the air.
Dhoni made the match special for his fans that came to watch the game by finishing it off in his trademark style. Yes! With a six.
Dhoni’s led Jharkhand has stormed into the final and will face Bengal on 17th March, Friday.
