IPL 2017: Squad Analysis – Sunrisers Hyderabad

SRH won the title last year.

By Anshuman Roy -

A side which has regained its form since David Warner took charge, Sunrisers Hyderabad were the winners of the title last year winning a high scoring encounter against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Certainly one of the teams to look out for SRH has added more fuel to the side and looks competitive.

In this feature we will look at the different aspects of their game plan and will analyze their chances this season.

Batting Strength:  They have the fabulous partnership of Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner up at the top. Both of them when on song can destroy any opposition bowling attack. At number three they have the ever reliable Kane Williamson who has been one of the best number three’s in world cricket for some time now.  The likes of Yuvraj Singh, Moises Henriques, Deepak Hooda and Naman Ojha then make up a formidable lower middle order which adds more all round  and batting stability to the side.

All round ability: Much like KKR and GL, Sunrisers is another team which boats of having quality all rounders. Yuvraj Singh, Moises Henriques and the new addition in the form of Mohd Nabi the Afghanistan skipper means that as a team SRH has quite a few all rounders to choose from. Adding to that strength is the likes of Deepak Hooda and Ben Cutting who can be useful all rounders down the order as and when the team needs them.

Bowling Strength: As it turned out, the SRH bowling attack was the best last season. Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman turned out to be a revelation last year and in combination with the old fox Ashish Nehra proved to be a fantastic fast bowling pair. The Indian duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Barinder Sran also proved their worth for SRH last season with some decisive spell of swing bowling. Where SRH is different from other bowling attacks is the fact that unlike other teams they bank on their medium pacers to win them matches, and certainly it paid rich dividence as it proved last year. They have also roped in the Afghanistan duo Mohd Nabi and 19 year old Rashid Khan, being the only team to have Afghanistan players.

COC’s Probable Playing XI: David Warner  (C) , Shikhar Dhawan, Tanmay Agarwal, Moises Henriques/ Mohd Nabi, Yuvraj Singh, Deepak Hooda, Naman Ojha, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan , Ashish Nehra, Mustafizur Rahman.

COC’s Take: They won the title last year, and also they have a top quality bowling attack to bank on. Their batting lineup posses some good international stars who can score the runs when needed. Keeping all these aspects in mind and the all round ability of the side, they should definitely qualify in the final four. If they can finish on the top two again depends on the kind of league stage they have.
