Sri Lanka team manager Asanka Gurusinha confirmed that the wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Perera has been ruled out of the first two ODIs against Bangladesh due to a hamstring strain, on Thursday.
In a warm-up game, Perera injured his left thigh while batting for Sri Lanka Board President's XI against the touring Bangladesh. The injury forced him to retire hurt.
According to an ESPNCricinfo report, Gurusinha said that the strain as a "minor one" and Perera could have even made it for the second ODI but the selectors did not allow him and advised him to take rest. The wicket-keeper batsman is expected to join the squad ahead of the third ODI on April 1.
The 26-year-old left-hander was making a national comeback to the limited-overs squad after being dropped from the tours of Australia and South Africa because of his poor form with the bat. However, Perera’s replacement has been not announced yet but expected to be named later today or on Friday.
The four-match One-Day International series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will start on Saturday (March 25) at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.
