The tenth edition of Indian Premier League is just around the corner and teams have started their preparations for glory in the cash-rich league. Players have been started to board India to assemble in the team camps.
Meanwhile, newly introduced team Rising Pune Supergiants, I mean Rising Pune Supergiant is also ready for their second addition. The team owners have decided to rename their team’s name and remove ‘S’ from their last name ‘Supergiants’. Thus, now it reads Rising Pune Supergiant. The team has also renamed their Twitter handle with the new name.
The officials of the franchise have refused to comment on this issue, but rumours are suggesting that reason behind it is numerology and a poor run in the last season leads them to do so. “The name change was on the cards after last season’s performance,” a source said.
However, other sources from the team said there is no superstition behind renaming the team. This source revealed “Before every season, we have a meeting with the creative team, and there it was decided that it is better to project the whole team rather than focusing on a few players. That is the reason behind changing the name.”
Earlier, RPS made a big announcement a day before the auction for this new season as they sacked MS Dhoni from captaincy and gave reins in Steven Smith’s hand. Now, it seems that team is looking to make numerous changes to taste the success.
“Last season, the focus was solely on the five core players, but that strategy didn’t work out. With the team not doing well and matches shifted from Pune, the stakes were hugely affected. This time, the focus is to improve the business propositions as well,” a reputed source said.
The team had MS Dhoni, Ajinkya Rahane, Steven Smith, R Ashwin and Kevin Pietersen in the previous season, but they were unable to compete with oppositions and finished second last after winning the wooden spoon encounter against KXIP, who eventually ended at last place in the point table.
