Bangladesh has made its spin attack even stronger with the inclusion of nineteen-year-old off-spinner Mehedi Hassan in the squad for the three-match series against Sri Lanka which will start from March 25.
This will be Hasan's debut ODI for Bangladesh against Sri Lanka Dambulla on Saturday. He impressed everyone by taking 10 wickets in the Test series against Sri Lanka and was the highest wicket-taker in that series for Bangladesh. Mehedi has also played seven Tests, taking 35 wickets at an average of 31.80 so far.
With the offspinner's inclusion, the squad now comprises of 17 members. Bangladesh Chief selector Minhajul Abedin revealed that the team management felt an off-spinner would work against the Islanders’ left-handed batsmen in the series opener and that’s why they have selected Hassan.
Minhajul Abedin told AFP, “The composition of the Sri Lanka team suggested that we would need an extra off-spinner in the series.”
