The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians have won the tournament two times till date and currently the preparation for the upcoming 10th season of India’s biggest money-spinner under new head coach and former Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene from Saturday.
The preparation camp will last for nine days will be lead by Rohit Sharma at the Wankhede Stadium until April 2. After that, the team will move towards Pune to lock horns with Rising Pune Supergiant on April 6.
Jayawardene will be supported by the existing support staff which comprises of Robin Singh (batting coach), Jonty Rhodes (fielding coach), Shane Bond (bowling coach), Paul Chapman (trainer) and Nitin Patel (physio).
Rohit has now completely recovered from his minor knee injury and he will be attending the camp along with his India teammates Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Hardik Pandya. They will also be joined by some new faces like Karn Sharma, Krishnappa Gowtham, and Saurabh Tiwary along with the retained players Jagadeesha Suchith, Vinay Kumar, Nitesh Rana, Deepak Punia and Jitesh Sharma.
The international players comprise of Nicolas Pooran from West Indies along with Mitchell Johnson, Asela Gunarathne, Jos Buttler, Mitchell McClenaghan, Lasith Malinga, Tim Southee, Kieron Pollard and Lendl Simmons will follow in the coming days.
Some of the Indian players like Harbhajan Singh, Parthiv Patel, Ambati Rayudu, Krunal Pandya and Kulwant Khejroliya will join the camp after the Deodhar Trophy, which starts in Visakhapatnam from Saturday.
