India captain Virat Kohli has been missing from the fourth and the final Test of the four-match series as he was unable to recover from his shoulder injury which he had sustained in the Ranchi Test. The 28-year old sat out on Day 2 of the test still came out to bat for India’s innings and then fielded in the final two days as well. In Dharamsala, he did participate in the warm-up sessions but did not bat in the nets.
During the pre-match conference, Kohli had stated that he will only play the match if he regains 100% fitness. It seems that didn’t pass the fitness test and the team management took no risk with the series is on the line. The series is currently leveled at 1-1 and although Kohli hasn’t had a good run with his willow in the series, his presence in the series decider would have been crucial for the young Indian team.
Former Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson took to twitter to express his views after Cricket Australia journalist confirmed the news about Virat Kohli’s exclusion. He tweeted, ”Australia’s chances of winning the 4th improve even more so now”.
Kohli’s exclusion could have been a confident booster for the team but Indian debutant Kuldeep Yadav has some other plans as the visitors are down to 271/8 even after a strong start of 131/1 in the first session. Johnson is well aware of the fact that the Australian team is well on their pursuit of winning the historic series win.
