There is an old cricket saying that when playing against the Aussies, you can always expect a ‘war of words’. Well, not really an old saying but it should be one. At least Ravindra Jadeja would agree to it after the day’s play as he got a mouthful of Matthew Wade with Australia’s captain Steve Smith joining in during his valuable knock of 63 in the first innings of the Dharamsala test.
Matthew Wade has been chirping behind the stumps throughout the series and as Ravindra Jadeja was taking the hosts closer to Australia’s first innings total, he started to become fussy. With a distance of 22-yards, (yes Jadeja was at the other end) Matthew Wade took a dig at Jadeja’s instagram account and his sword celebration. Umpire Ian Gould tried to be the peace-maker but his efforts were in vain. When Jadeja was at the batting end, there were words exchanged between the two regarding each other’s place in the test side with Steve Smith joining in the fun.
Ultimately, Jadeja was the real winner as he completed his fifty and the spat only added a bit of fire to Jadeja’s sword dance. The final flourish to his swirling sword clearly suggested that he was all charged up with the insignificant chat between the two.
