RCB team management has announced that South African AB de Villiers will captain the team in upcoming IPL 10 in Kohli’s absence.
Virat Kohli sustained a shoulder injury in the Ranchi Test against Australia and missed the fourth Test at Dharamshala for the same reason. After the Test ended and India won the series 2-1, it was announced that Virat Kohli would miss some initial matches for his IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The news can have far reaching effects as Virat Kohli was in devastating form in the last IPL, where he scored over 900 runs and 4 centuries. He demolished every opponent and took his team to the finals of the tournament, where they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad.
AB de Villiers has been as devastating as Kohli and was instrumental in RCB’s run to the final last year, as Chris Gayle has a lukewarm season in IPL 9. AB de Villiers is the limited overs ODI captain of South Africa and has led them to the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2015.
RCB will open their IPL 10 journey against defending champions Hyderabad on April 5, 2017 in Hyderabad.
