23-year old Kerala pacer Basil Thampi is all set for his debut IPL season with Gujarat Lions. Talking to the media at Saurashtra Cricket Association stadium, Thampi talked about the benefits and challenges of the tournament for a young bowler like him.
Training with the Gujarat Lions, Thampi said, "IPL is a good platform for young domestic players, who get a chance to play with and against international players and for me it’s a big opportunity.”
Thampi was picked up by Gujarat Lions in the auction for Rs 85 lakh. The fact that he was bought for more money than bowlers like Munaf Patel and Manpreet Singh Gony, who have already don the blue jersey will help his confidence level.
Also aware of the challenges in front of him, Thampi said, "Bowling is a big challenge in shortest format of the game, but luckily I am getting tips from skipper Suresh Raina and experienced bowlers like Praveen bhai (Praveen Kumar) and Munaf bhai (Munaf Patel),"
Thampi enjoyed a very good domestic season for Kerala which was big reason he was picked up at 8.5 times of his base price of Rs 10 lakhs as Gujarat Lions looked to bolster their bowling attack.
