In a very surprising news break, reports have confirmed that opener Murali Vijay and ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin are set to miss IPL 2017. It is suggested that both the players are carrying injuries after participating in a marathon home Test season, and will take time to rest before the start of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in England.
Ashwin underwent scans on his shoulder after the Dharamshala Test. He has already broken the record for most overs bowled by an Indian bowler in one Test season and probably has a creaky shoulder after bowling thousands of deliveries. He plays for Rising Pune Supergiants and his absence will leave a big hole in the team’s composition.
Vijay on the other hand missed one Test against Australia, due to a shoulder niggle that has been troubling him for a long time. He requires time to heal that shoulder and will miss the entire IPL 10 for Kings XI Punjab. Unlike Ashwin, Vijay isn’t a part of India’s limited overs scheme and would not be required to be ready for the Champions Trophy that begins just 11 days after IPL 10 ends.
Earlier, RCB suffered a double blow to their IPL preparations when Virat Kohli and KL Rahul announced that they will miss the IPL 10. Kohli will miss some matches initially to rest his hurt shoulder, while Rahul will miss the entire IPL and have surgery on his shoulder.
BCCI doesn’t want to over exert its top players and wants them to have a proper rest before the Champions trophy begins.
