Gujarat Lions had a dream debut last season, as the Intex Technologies owned team topped the charts in the IPL and made it to the playoffs. Unfortunately, they lost both their qualifiers to eventual finalists RCB and SRH. Still, the team impressed one and all with their fighting spirit and captaincy of Suresh Raina was applauded as well. Let’s have a look at what the Gujarat Lions squad has in store for us in IPL 10.
Gujarat Lions batting
Gujarat Lions might be the only team to rival Royal Challengers Bangalore for bragging rights in batting. Their team has hitters like Dwayne Smith, Brendon McCullum, Captain Suresh Raina, Aaron Finch, new recruit Jason Roy, Dinesh Karthik and James Faulkner in their ranks. This batting lineup is enough for opposition teams to have sleepless nights. Gujarat lost just 5 matches out of 14 they played and were the best team in both batting and bowling by a long distance.
This time, they will look to repeat their last year’s performance and some of their new buys will help them reach the finals this time. However, they will miss the services of all-rounder Dwayne Bravo for initial matches this season, as he is out with a severe injury.
Gujarat Lions bowling
Gujarat bowling was impressive against every opposition, barring one match against RCB where they went for 240 plus runs. James Faulkner, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhawal Kulkarni and Praveen Kumar will lead the bowling attack for Gujarat this season. They will be aided by Aussie Andrew Tye, Nathu Singh, Basil Thampi and Shadab Jakati in their quest for an IPL title. However, they need someone to take up the responsibility of bowling some tight overs in the death, which has been their Achilles heel during the last season.
COC Probable XI
Dwayne Smith, Brendon McCullum, Jason Roy, Suresh Raina(C), Dinesh Karthik (WK), Ishan Kishan, Ravindra Jadeja, James Faulkner, Dhawal Kulkarni, Shadab Jakati, Praveen Kumar
Gujarat Lions have a real chance of going through to the play-offs again. Absence of Bravo might throw in a spanner in their well oiled machine, but they have that covered. Only big concern for Gujarat team is to find a decent third spinner to assist Jakati and Jadeja, as Shivil Kaushik went for too many runs last season.
