On Thursday, the Governing Council Indian Premier League (IPL) has decided to felicitate five legendary cricketers of India which includes Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Virender Sehwag, during the opening ceremony of IPL.
During a chat with reporters after the completion of IPL GC meet, IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla said, "The decision was taken at the GC meeting that five legends of Indian cricket -- Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Virender Sehwag will be felicitated during the opening ceremony in Hyderabad on April 5.”
Out of the five, four were the captains of India team during the golden era of Indian cricket. However, it’s difficult to understand why the former captain and current national head coach Anil Kumble hasn’t been included in the felicitation list despite his unforgettable contributions for Indian cricket.
Meanwhile, on Diana Edulji's request, the former India women's cricketers will be receiving their one-time ex-gratia payment at their local IPL venues during the matches.
